Il se dit Des cris par lesquels un nombre plus ou moins grand de personnes marquent la joie qu'elles ont de quelque chose, ou la haute estime qu'elles ont pour quelqu'un. À son arrivée, il se fit une acclamation générale. Le sénat faisait des acclamations aux nouveaux empereurs. On fait des acclamations à la fin des conciles. Il fut reçu avec de grandes acclamations. De longues acclamations. Il fut salué par les acclamations de la multitude. Tout retentissait de leurs acclamations. Les acclamations des peuples. Les applaudissements et les acclamations.

PAR ACCLAMATION. loc. adv.Manière dont une assemblée donne son suffrage, lorsqu'une personne est élue, une loi votée, une proposition adoptée, etc., tout d'une voix et sans qu'il soit besoin d'aller au scrutin. Il fut élu, nommé par acclamation. La loi passa, fut votée par acclamation. La proposition fut adoptée par acclamation.
